Taupiri, a small town with about 450 people, is located on the east bank of waikato river. Taupiri is about 7 minutes north of Ngaruwa East and overlooked by Taupiri Mountain (Taupiri Moenga), which is a sacred cemetery for Maori of Waikato tribe.
